Bullseye

I was just forwarded this email. I am unable to verify it’s accuracy, other then that a Challenger had a massive bird strike.

Smack #1

“8 April 2008 / 1205 MDT / Colorado Springs Airport
Operator: Boeing Co

The NTSB has reported:

Shortly after departure from the Colorado Spring airport the aircraft encountered multiple large birds at an altitude between 2000 to 4000 feet AGL resulting in multiple bird strike impacts. One bird penetrated the nose area fuselage just below the windshield center post, continued through the forward cockpit bulkhead, and displaced the #4 display unit. Bird remains were sprayed throughout the cockpit. There is evidence the both engines ingested at least one bird with the crew reporting a power loss on the #2 engine. The crew conducted an air turn back and landed at the Colorado Springs airport without further incident. No injuries were reported.

The NTSB and FAA are investigating this accident. The FDR and CVR will be downloaded. The bird remains will be recovered with assistance from a USDA biologist and sent to the Smithsonian Institute for identification.

Bombardier has dispatched a FSR and MRP to assist the operator. Air safety is in contact with the NTSB will support any investigation inquiries. The Challenger 604 is not equipped with a bird strike barrier on the forward bulkhead.”

Concorde: Thank You for 27 Supersonic Years

This was sent to me from PlaneMadness Member SpeedBird48. It’s an absolutely wonderful tribute to an incredible airplane and a definite much watch.

I am actually back into this post editing it to be quite honest, and here’s why: I watched the video again and it was then that I realized my words in the first run didn’t do this airplane or the age that generated it the slightest bit of justice.

And could words really do either justice? I doubt it. You just have to absorb what’s said and see how it effects you. Quite frankly it really effected me. I’m watching it now for the 5th time. When seeing this not only am I witnessing one of the greatest feats of technological innovation, I’m also being taken back to a different time, a simpler time… A time that’s so far removed from today’s airline fiasco in the United States that it raises the hair on my arms to watch the video. Although it’s a glimpse of the past, it represents hope for the future.

I’m especially awed by the 4:15 mark- The takeoff sequence.

This was one hell of an awesome airplane, only shadowed by the majesty of the innovation, team spirit, and human minds at work during the age that generated it.

The Concorde’s Final Departure from JFK

Thanks to PlaneMadness member Anthony for sending me the link to this video. If you recall a while back I featured the actual ATC audio of the final flight of the Concorde. Well here is a wonderful video composition of it.

General Aviation Pilots Encounter an F-16 Over Arizona Last Month

USAF F16CJoin me as I sit down with private pilot Patrick McCall as he tells us about both his and another pilot’s experience late last month with an F-16 over Arizona. Both pilots were transitioning the Gladden MOA at the time.

The FAA is investigating and Senator John McCain’s office has also reportably sent a request to Luke Air Force base for a complete disclosure of the events. This story is generating quite the stir and the main stream media is just starting to pick up on it.

So sit back and listen to one pilot’s incredible story about his experience, because I’m sure you’ll find it as interesting as I did.
