Off Topic: Artificial Intelligence is Here

To say that this is anything less then ‘AI’ or downright spooky even, would be an understatement. I especially enjoyed the part where the tech tried to kick it over. This is the results of government funding (reportedly $10 million dollars) from DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. From it’s website:

“The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is the central research and development organization for the Department of Defense (DoD). It manages and directs selected basic and applied research and development projects for DoD, and pursues research and technology where risk and payoff are both very high and where success may provide dramatic advances for traditional military roles and missions.”

Boston Dynamics is the brains behind this robot and it will be interesting to see it’s advances. Here’s a direct link to their website page on it.

Climbs slopes up to 35 degrees
Walks across rubble
Carries a 340 lb load

    Hi Chris, that was one of the most bizarre thing I’ve seen in a long time. I think if a fleet of those were coming over the hill at me I’d be running. After I showed one of the guys at work, he also found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXJZVZFRFJc which is pretty funny.

    Thanks for the input! I’ll check out the video. Yeah I could imagine the same thing. A weaponized version of ‘Chatter Box’ from the movie HellRaiser!

    Either way, the world is going to see some pretty unreal stuff I think in the next 25 years that’s for sure.
