If you haven’t seen this before then it is my pleasure to introduce WingSuit Flying to you - The New Frontier of Human Flight!
When I first saw the videos above I just about fell out of my chair. I think you’ll agree that this is about the closest thing EVER to actual human flight to date without the aid of mechanical assistance.
To say this is amazing is an understatement- Most people would have never thought this was even possible. Of course some will call it insane and crazy but those who do are the usual naysayers of any new frontier.
Loic Jean Albert and his friends are pioneers of the same caliber as the astronauts who went to the moon, and those of us who have the same yearning to fly with freedom in the sky like a real bird were given the biggest boost we could have ever asked for before this- Simply by it’s emergence through the selfless acts of incredible bravery on the part of those who are pioneering it.
This is a video of 2 Bombardier Super Scoopers taking on water at Lake Sherwood. They were contracted to fight the Canyon Fire in Malibu on October 21-25 by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The planes are flying west to east down the middle of the lake.
President Bush nominated former UAL Captain Bobby Sturgell to a five-year term as the head of the FAA. Before United, Mr. Sturgell was an instructor at the Navy Fighter Weapons School (Topgun). He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Virginia School of Law.
Although Mr. Sturgell supports users fees- “A cost-based funding structure is essential to transforming the aviation system” he’s quoted as saying, the AOPA and the EAA said they both supported his nomination. AOPA President Phil Boyer says he’s found that Sturgell “understands aviation from the pilot’s perspective.” The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) also support his nomination.
The only dissenter among the wave of positive support by the alphabet groups is the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA). “The President’s nomination for FAA Administrator has been an integral part of [the] systematic demise of controller staffing and abysmal labor-management relations,” said NATCA president Patrick Forrey. “Therefore, NATCA will not support a nominee who will continue to exhibit a management philosophy that demoralizes its valuable workforce to the point of leaving.”
Personally, I’d prefer someone with real world experience in that position myself. ~Capt’n Chris
I have discovered a way to get email at Los Angeles International Airport (my favorite airport), from anywhere.
It’s called 3D MailBox and it’s a 3D rendering engine which transforms your computer’s email functions into a vivid 3D Los Angeles International Airport- A graphical representation of sorts using the airport, airliners, the tower, and various other things native to LAX to represent your email and all it’s functions. Watch the video to get an idea of what I’m talking about. I haven’t actually used it yet as my computer’s over 4 years old and due for an upgrade (it’s a pig and it’s slowing down as we speak) but I plan on installing it after.
This is a great idea as far as I’m concerned. Just be aware that before you install it, as with any 3D rendering program, the required computing horsepower needs to be representative of those found in slightly newer systems.
